Celerum

Celerum is a software company developing novel artificial intelligence that improves the operational efficiency of logistics and supply chains.

It was founded in 2013 to develop and commercialise the work of Professor John McCall, Head of Research at the National Subsea Centre at Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen.

Professor McCall has more than 25 years research experience in nature-inspired computing (NIC). To date his research group at RGU has attracted 23 grants totalling more than £2.3 million, including nearly £1 million from six Innovate UK grants.

Celerum’s truck and maritime logistics systems use NIC to digitally mimic animal behaviour, such as ant colonies and bees, to solve complex logistical problems. This includes automatically redirecting lorries to the best alternative route in the event of unforeseen circumstances, or optimal vessel usage for one or more company’s supply needs.

Whats next?

Celerum is actively selling its truck logistics system which provides significant efficiencies including reduced fuel and emissions. It is also partnering with PlanSea Solutions Ltd to provide maritime planning and sharing software to the North Sea offshore industry and working with the Highlands & Islands Innovation Network on a new open logistics platform.
