Trojan Energy

Trojan Energy provide convenient on-street EV charging without pavement clutter, providing EV charging to those without access to off-street parking.

Trojan Energy aims to help the 30 per cent of drivers without a dedicated parking space transition to EVs, maintaining an uncluttered urban landscape.

It recognises a main barrier to EV uptake is limited access to dedicated parking spaces. Local authorities cannot provide these at volume as EV transition continues. Trailing cables across the pavement is not an acceptable solution to EV charging and is unsuitable for those with disabilities and visual impairments.

The heart of its technology is the charge point, sunk into the pavement and fitted flat and flush to the surface. The driver inserts a lance into the flat docking station to charge their vehicle. The lance can be removed and stored once complete.

This allows its technology to be installed on almost all residential streets and Trojan Energy is looking to have around 15 chargers per hub, with more than one hub on larger streets.

Whats next?

The Subsurface Technology for Electric Pathways (STEP) Project is trialling the solution in London, supported by IUK and funded by OZEV. 150 chargepoints will be installed on pavements and will inform future decisions about the provision of on-street parking across the UK.

The IUK DoorSTEP project will trial 25 Aon Chargers – individual chargers powered by dwellings – across Brent and Oxfordshire.
